ChipTalk emulates the GI CTS256-AL2’s text-to-code algorithm developed by the Navel Research Lab to convert English text into phoneme codes. The GI SP0256-AL2 emulator then produces audio output that allows a developer to hear the results of the text to speech conversion. The user can then edit the test to produce easier to understand synthetic speech. ChipTalk was developed to cut down the normally long trial and error process of assembling words from basic phonetic parts of speech which would then need to be downloaded to the GI chipset to preview.
